Life has been quite a journey, and I am ready to share the weird and wonderful world of Phoenix Curiosities.
Curiosities is an umbrella. Under this umbrella is all things I do creatively. Phoenix Curiosities is me, whether I am Mel, M.H. Law (my pen name) or Melsie (my solo music project.)
Here are just a few things I do:
-I write songs, poetry and horror fiction.
-I make greeting cards, stickers and jewelry.
-I host a literary open mic called Chimera.
-I curate and sell vintage paperbacks and also have used books available at a sandwich shop called Ben & Sally’s in St. Henri.
I’ve been taking it easy as I transition into my full-time job, but Curiosities is my way of keeping a connection with the amazing community I met through owning Phoenix Books as well as expressing myself creatively.
I hope to still see some familiar faces from time to time as well as meet more creatives.
I will be starting to get more out there again in August!
I’m the frontwoman in the band Skullgorg and we have a show at The Thrashcan on Saturday August 9 with Saint Willow, Oceans Of Us and The Black Tantra. I would describe our music as heavy alt rock. You can contact me for the address if you’re interested in attending!
On Saturday August 23 I’m having a pop-up at Indian Knick Knacks, which is right next to Phoenix Books! Come say hi and check out my spooky stickers, cards and jewelry.
On Tuesday August 26 Polymorphic Magazine is releasing their next horror collection and I’ll be selling some weird spooky vintage books! Come check it out, play some games, have a drink and hang out with some incredible artists and writers.
I won’t be doing Chimera Open Mic this month, but it should be back either next month or in October.
